Beyond Human Challenge

This is my submission in the Game Environment/Level Art category, it has been a tough challenge for me with a vast amount of learning, I’m pretty happy with the result, some things didn’t really came out completely as I wanted, but considering the time limitation I had to keep moving forward. Overall I think that I got better during the process and found areas that I need to practice more to improve.

I did my best to go as close as possible to concept, keeping always in my mind that I have to finish on time no matter what. Lots of mistakes were made during the production, like focusing too much on small details in the beginning or the lack of better modularity for the wires, and certainly I have an urgent need to improve my hard surface modeling.

Since almost everything had sand on it, I setup a master material that included top aligned sand and could be refined with vertex paint.

I made a couple of post process materials to control the gamma and saturation using the Scene Depth and  to control the contrast where the monks downstairs are.

For foliage I made grass in Maya and a bush with some variations in SpeedTree, they are a bit high poly though, I planned on making some cactus but I didn't have enough time.
